Our Social Value

How we make a difference beyond our core Service

We believe that information should be accessible to everyone.

Around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability. Millions more have dyslexia or low literacy. Many of these people cannot access Documents that affect their health, housing, legal rights, or benefits.

Claru exists to change that. Every Document we convert helps someone access Information that matters to them.

Equal Opportunity

We reduce inequality of opportunity by making information accessible.

  • We convert Documents into Easy Read and Plain English formats.
  • We follow UK Association for Accessible Formats (UKAAF) guidelines.
  • We help organisations meet their Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) under the Equality Act 2010.
  • We make professional Easy Read conversion affordable for smaller Charities and Community Groups.

Wellbeing

Better access to information improves life outcomes.

  • People with learning disabilities can access health information, appointment letters, and care plans.
  • Tenants with low literacy can understand their rights and responsibilities.
  • People can engage meaningfully with services that affect their lives.

Fighting Climate Change

We take our environmental responsibilities seriously.

  • Our Website runs on verified green-energy hosting.
  • We contribute 1.5% of revenue to carbon removal via Frontier Climate.
  • We are a Pledge 1% member — we donate 1% of product and time to Charity.

Tackling Economic Inequality

We lower the cost barrier to accessible communications.

  • Traditional Easy Read conversion costs £500–£1,500 per Document. We start from £2.
  • This makes accessible communications affordable for smaller voluntary and community organisations.
  • We offer a free first conversion to every new User, regardless of organisation size.

Alignment to the Social Value Model

The UK Government's Social Value Model (PPN 06/20) sets out five themes for social value in procurement. Claru primarily contributes to:

  • MAC 4 — Equal Opportunity — reducing inequality of opportunity in accessing information
  • MAC 5 — Wellbeing — improving health, housing, and social outcomes
  • MAC 3 — Fighting Climate Change — green hosting and carbon removal contributions
  • MAC 2 — Tackling Economic Inequality — affordable access to professional accessibility services
