Background information and resources for journalists and media professionals.

Claru is an AI-powered accessibility platform that transforms ordinary documents and web pages into Easy Read.

Easy Read is a clear, simple, image-enhanced accessible format used throughout the public and service sector.

Since launching, Claru has converted thousands of words to Easy Read, reducing time and cost barriers for organisations and providing essential access to content for everyone. What once took days of planning and execution can now be done in minutes and at a fraction of the price.

To give everyone the keys to social participation. To make every public-facing document intelligible to all. To place equity and dignity at the centre of how we communicate in society.

We envisage a world where accessibility is the cornerstone of communication, not an afterthought. We want every person, regardless of ability, education, or background, to be able to read and engage with the documents that govern health, housing, legal rights, services, and more in the simplest way possible. In this world, everyone is empowered to participate actively and positively in their communities.

  • Clarity with Empathy. We choose simplicity without condescension.
  • Helpfulness. Claru exists to be helpful. Every feature is designed with users and readers in-mind.
  • Equity. Everyone deserves full access to information.
  • Integrity. We aim to align our Easy Read with established principles and always encourage human review.
  • Innovation. We use AI and smart design to overcome challenges, increase speed, and expand reach.
  • Transparency. Users should understand how our services work and what they are paying for.

Everyone interacts with letters and forms every week. Many of these documents have real and important consequences. However, too often, vital information is locked in dense, technical or legal language that excludes most of us, leaving us unsure and confused.

This isn't a question of literacy or education, but rather of time, confidence, and contexts - and it's in everyone's interest to simplify communication for better access and understanding.

Claru allows you to create accessible formats on-demand, wherever you are, with just an internet-connected device. Governments, nonprofits, service providers, and private institutions can now meet legal and moral inclusivity obligations without prohibitive expense and whenever the situation arises.

Whether you're a health authority converting consent forms, a local council publishing policy, or a charity distributing vital guidance, Claru offers you a tool to speak clearly to everyone.

Claru is based in Manchester (United Kingdom) and operates across the public and service sectors.

Launched in Autumn 2025, Claru is open to everyone and welcomes feedback to improve its service.
